The Daughter Nobody Chose / Chapter 14 / 15

Chapter 14: The Choice Nobody Expected

The Collins mansion was surrounded by police vehicles.

The truth had finally started moving faster than Victoria could control.

But Samantha knew one thing.

The story wasn’t over.

Not until Olivia answered for herself.

She found Olivia in the old living room.

The same room where Victoria had once displayed her daughters like trophies.

But now Olivia looked different.

No expensive dress.

No makeup.

No confidence.

Just a woman who had finally run out of places to hide.

Samantha stood in front of her.

“Why?””

Olivia looked up.

She already knew.

“You found her.””

Samantha nodded.

“Mom.””

The word made Olivia close her eyes.

“She’s alive.””

“Yes.””

Silence.

Then Olivia whispered:

“I knew.””

Samantha’s heart sank.

“You knew?””

Olivia nodded.

“I knew she wasn’t dead.””

The pain was worse because Samantha expected denial.

Not honesty.

“When?””

Olivia looked away.

“Years ago.””

Samantha stepped closer.

“Explain.””

Olivia wiped her eyes.

“I found documents in Mom’s office when I was sixteen.””

“What documents?””

“Medical records.””

Samantha stared.

“And you said nothing.””

Olivia nodded.

“Yes.””

“Why?””

Olivia’s voice broke.

“Because I was terrified.””

Samantha shook her head.

“Everyone was terrified.””

“I know.””

Olivia looked at her.

“But fear doesn’t excuse what I did.””

The honesty stopped Samantha.

Olivia continued.

“Mom told me if I exposed her, she would destroy Charlotte.””

Samantha frowned.

“She threatened Charlotte?””

“Yes.””

Olivia laughed bitterly.

“She always knew exactly how to control people.””

Samantha looked toward the window.

“And Alexander?””

Olivia looked confused.

“What about him?””

“The photograph.””

Olivia shook her head.

“I didn’t send it.””

Samantha froze.

“What?””

Olivia looked afraid.

“Someone else has been manipulating everything.””

A sudden realization appeared.

“Who?””

Olivia hesitated.

Then whispered:

“Victoria.””

Samantha frowned.

“But Victoria wanted me to distrust Alexander.””

“Yes.””

“Why?””

Olivia looked at her.

“Because Alexander is the only person who can stop her.””

The room became quiet.

Then Olivia reached into her pocket.

She handed Samantha a small USB drive.

“What is this?””

“The final evidence.””

Samantha stared.

“Where did you get it?””

Olivia looked down.

“Mom gave it to me.””

The answer shocked her.

“Why?””

“Because she thought I would protect her.””

Samantha understood.

Victoria had trusted Olivia.

Not because she loved her.

Because she thought Olivia was controllable.

“What’s on it?””

Olivia looked toward the door.

“Everything.””

An hour later, everyone gathered in the Hayes estate.

Samantha.

Alexander.

Thomas.

Eleanor.

Olivia.

Charlotte.

And Victoria.

The woman who had controlled everyone for twenty years.

Victoria stood calmly.

“You think this changes anything?””

Alexander connected the USB drive.

A video appeared.

Victoria’s face changed.

Because she recognized it.

The recording showed conversations.

Payments.

Plans.

Everything.

Including the night Eleanor disappeared.

Samantha watched as Victoria’s younger voice admitted:

“She can’t know the truth.””

The video continued.

Then came the final recording.

Victoria speaking to Dr. Collins.

“You promised me control.””

His response:

“You will have it once Samantha is removed.””

The room became silent.

Victoria finally lost her composure.

“You don’t understand.””

Samantha looked at her.

“No.””

Her voice was calm.

“You don’t understand.””

Victoria stared.

Samantha continued.

“You spent twenty years trying to convince me I was nothing.””

She stepped closer.

“But you were afraid of me the entire time.””

Victoria’s expression cracked.

For the first time, Samantha saw fear.

Real fear.

Police entered the room.

Victoria looked around.

At Olivia.

At Charlotte.

At Samantha.

“You’re all betraying me.””

Charlotte answered quietly:

“No.””

She looked at her.

“You betrayed us first.””

Victoria was taken away.

But before she left, she turned toward Samantha.

“You think you won?””

Samantha watched her.

“Yes.””

Victoria smiled slightly.

“Then ask your mother what she never told you.””

Samantha froze.

Eleanor looked away.

Everyone noticed.

Samantha turned.

“What is she talking about?””

Eleanor said nothing.

“Mom.””

The older woman closed her eyes.

And whispered:

“There is one more secret.””

Samantha’s heart sank.

“What secret?””

Eleanor looked at Alexander.

Then at Samantha.

“Your birth was not an accident.””

Silence.

“What does that mean?””

Eleanor reached for her hand.

“It means your father and I chose you.””

Samantha frowned.

“I don’t understand.””

Eleanor took a deep breath.

“Because Samantha…”

She paused.

“You were not just the heir.””

May you like

Everyone waited.

“You were the reason the entire Hayes inheritance was created.””
