Chapter 18 - THE TRUTH UNLEASHED

Julian tried to deny it. He appeared on television, pale and furious, calling it a hoax. A smear campaign. Forgery.

But the evidence was overwhelming. Journalists verified every document. Every recording. Every transaction. Independent experts confirmed its authenticity. Witnesses began coming forward—people Julian had bribed, people he had threatened, people who had seen too much and stayed silent too long.

By midday, his business partners were abandoning him. By evening, his political allies were calling for investigation. By the next morning, law enforcement agencies were announcing a full criminal inquiry.

I watched it happen from a safe house, Lily asleep in the next room. Emma sat beside me, watching the news reports in silence.

“He’s finished,” she said quietly.

“Not yet,” I said. “Not until he’s arrested.”

But Julian was gone. He had vanished before the story broke. He hadn’t been at his home. His offices were empty. He had taken what he could carry and disappeared into the shadows he had always inhabited.

The police launched a nationwide manhunt. Airports. Borders. Ports. Every name and alias Julian had ever used was flagged.

Days passed. Then weeks. Julian remained missing.

Lily asked about him once. “Is Uncle Julian coming back?”

“No,” I told her. “He’s gone away. And he will never hurt anyone again.”

But I knew better. Julian was still out there. Hiding. Watching. Planning. And I knew he would not leave without one final, desperate attempt to reclaim everything he had lost.
