Chapter 16 - THE FORGOTTEN WITNESS

We moved that night. No notice. No goodbye. We drove to a small cabin deep in the mountains—one even Julian didn’t know existed. There, away from phones and cameras and eyes, we began to rebuild.

We still had copies of the evidence. Not the originals. Not the full files. But Dad had been thorough. Before he died, he had sent partial copies to three separate people. We had the list from his letter. Three names. Three safe people.

One was dead. The second was missing.

The third… was a woman named Elena. She had been Dad’s secretary for twenty years. She had retired shortly before his death. She had seen everything. Heard everything.

We found her living in a quiet coastal town. When we arrived at her door, she looked at us, then at Lily, and stepped aside without a word.

“I was waiting,” she said simply. “Your father told me you might come. He told me to protect what he gave me until you were ready.”

She led us to a safe built into the floor of her closet. Inside lay a complete backup of everything. Financial records. Emails. Transcripts. Audio recordings. Photographs. Dad had sent it all to her months before he died.

“He said Julian would try to destroy the truth,” Elena said, handing me the drive. “He said to keep it safe. To give it to you only when you were ready to fight.”

I held the drive in my hand. Solid. Real. The truth.

“Julian is powerful,” Elena said. “He has people everywhere. But this… this is undeniable. This is from his own accounts. His own emails. His own voice on recordings. He cannot deny it.”

“Why didn’t you use it?” I asked.

“Because your father asked me to wait,” she said. “He said only you could decide when to strike. He said you would know the right moment.”

I looked at the files. At the sheer weight of everything Julian had done. At the proof of every crime. Every lie. Every death.

“The moment is now,” I said.
