Chapter 14 - THE FINAL BETRAYAL

Thomas found out two days later.

He had intercepted a letter from Evelyn to her lawyers—written the day before her trial, never sent. In it, she confessed everything. Her crimes. Her brother’s death. And the truth about Thomas.

Daniel called me late that night. “He knows. Someone delivered the letter to him anonymously. He is furious. He feels betrayed. Used.”

“Who sent it?” I asked.

“Evelyn’s former lawyer,” Daniel said. “He hated her. He held onto the letter for years. Waiting for the right moment.”

I gripped the phone. “Where is Thomas now?”

“On his way to see Evelyn. At the prison. And then… he is coming for you.”

I hung up and ran to Grace’s room. She was sleeping peacefully. I woke her gently, wrapped her in a blanket, and called Sarah. We would leave. Now. Before Thomas arrived.

But as I walked out the front door, Thomas stood in the driveway. Rain poured down. He looked wild—hair disheveled, eyes burning, face streaked with rain and tears.

“Evelyn was my mother,” he said, his voice trembling with rage and grief. “She was my mother. And she used me. She lied to me. She made me grovel. She gave everything to Daniel instead.”

“Thomas… I am sorry,” I said gently, stepping back. “I know how much this hurts.”

“Sorry?” He laughed—a wild, broken sound. “My whole life was a lie! I worked for her. I stole for her. I killed for her! And she laughed at me! She called me a mistake!”

He took a step forward. “But it doesn’t matter. Because I still have the power you gave me. I still control the company. And I will take everything. Every share. Every penny. And then… I will take Grace.”

“Stay away from my daughter,” I warned him.

“Why not?” he snarled. “It should have been mine! All of it! If I had been acknowledged as her son… Daniel would have had nothing! You would have had nothing!”

He lunged forward. Sarah stepped between us, shouting for the police. Thomas shoved her aside. He reached for me—for Grace.

Then Daniel appeared. He had been waiting in the shadows. He grabbed Thomas, twisting his arms behind his back. Thomas struggled, screaming in rage and grief, fighting with the strength of a man who had just lost his entire world.

“It’s over, Thomas,” Daniel said, holding him firm. “The police are coming. You have nowhere left to run.”

“Let go of me!” Thomas shrieked. “I am a Holloway! Everything is mine!”

“No,” Daniel said quietly. “You were never a Holloway. You were just a tool. And she discarded you.”

Thomas went still. He slumped in Daniel’s grip, weeping openly. “She was my mother… and she discarded me…”

Sirens wailed in the distance. Red and blue lights swept over the trees. Thomas made no move to run. He simply stood there, broken, defeated, as the police arrived and placed him in handcuffs.

As they led him away, he looked back at me once. “Tell her… tell her I hated her. Tell her I am glad she is locked away forever.”

Then he was gone.
