Chapter 18 - THE NEW BEGINNING

Life settled into a beautiful, quiet rhythm. I sold my father’s company. I closed his offices. I started something new—smaller. Humbler. Focused on helping people. On building rather than destroying.

James became my partner in everything. We worked together. We managed the estate together. We raised the girls together. He was family. In every way that mattered.

One evening, as we sat on the porch watching the sunset, James spoke.

“Clara would be proud of you, Adrian. Of the man you’ve become.”

“I had to be,” I said. “For her. For the baby. For the girls.”

James nodded. “And Vanessa?”

“I forgive her,” I said quietly. “Not for what she did. But for the pain she carried. For the loss that broke her. And for the truth she finally told. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what she did was okay. It just means… I’m no longer carrying the hate.”

James was silent. Then he said, “Clara would have forgiven her too.”

“I know,” I said. “That’s why I did it.”
