Chapter 11 - THE CONSEQUENCES OF TRUTH

The truth changes everything.

It changes how you see your past. How you see your present. How you look at your own face in the mirror.

I spent the next three days digging. Digging into my own history. Into my mother’s life. Into the man who had fathered me and then abandoned her — abandoned us — without a second thought.

I learned that Silas had forced my mother to give me up. That when she refused… he had arranged her “accident.” That she had gone into hiding and raised me alone, terrified that one day he would find us. That she had changed our names, moved from city to city, and never told me the truth — to protect me.

She had died believing I was safe. Believing Silas would never find me.

But Silas had known.

He had known who I was the moment we met. He had watched me. He had waited. He had even encouraged Vanessa to marry me — likely hoping he could control me through her. And when he realized I would never be his puppet… he had ordered my daughter killed.

My own flesh and blood.

I sat in Martin’s office, staring at the wall.

“Adrian… you don’t have to do this,” Martin said gently. “You can walk away. Change your names. Move abroad. Silas is in jail. His network is crumbling. You could be safe.”

I shook my head.

“And let him win? Let him spend the rest of his life believing he could threaten us, hurt us, and get away with it? Let my daughter grow up running from the blood in her veins? No. I finish this. Now.”

I stood up. I gathered every document. Every birth certificate. Every DNA report. Every piece of evidence that proved I was Silas’s son — and therefore the legal heir to everything he had stolen.

I walked into the jail.

They led me to the visiting room. Silas walked in. He sat down. He picked up the phone.

He didn’t look surprised to see me.

“You know,” he said. It wasn’t a question.

“I know everything,” I replied. “I know you killed my mother. I know you abandoned me. I know you tried to kill your own granddaughter. And I know… that everything you stole… legally belongs to me.”

Silas smiled. A cold, terrible smile.

“Then you know why I have to kill you. You are the only thing standing between me and absolute power. You always were.”

“I’m not here to fight you,” I said. “I’m here to take what is mine. And to give it to the person who truly deserves it. Sophie.”

Silas leaned closer to the glass.

“You think being my son makes you strong? It makes you weak. It makes you just like me. One day… you will wake up and realize you want what I wanted. You will realize money is the only thing that matters. And then… you will destroy everyone who stands in your way. Just like I did.”

“I will never be like you,” I said.

Silas laughed.

“Blood is stronger than promises, boy. It runs deeper than love. It runs deeper than life. And one day… it will awaken inside you. And then… you will understand why I did everything.”

I stood up.

“You will rot in this cell,” I said. “Alone. Hated. Forgotten. And everything you stole… will be used to heal the wounds you caused. To help the families you destroyed. To protect the child you tried to murder. That is your legacy. Nothing.”

I turned to leave.

“Adrian!” Silas shouted.

I stopped. But I didn’t turn around.

“You think you’ve won!” he screamed. “But the missing half of the will… the one your wife hid… it doesn’t just name you as heir! It names TWO heirs! You… and a brother you never knew existed!”

My heart stopped.

“A brother?”

Silas laughed wildly.

“Yes! You have a brother! And he is not like you! He was raised in my image! He was taught to hate you! And he is coming! He is coming to take what is his! And he will kill you! And he will kill the girl! And he will bring everything back to me!”

I spun around.

“Where is he?”

May you like

Silas leaned back in his chair. He looked at me with pure, unadulterated triumph.

“He is closer than you think. And he carries a name that will destroy you both.”
