Chapter 19 - HEALING AND HOPE

Months passed. Slowly, the house began to feel like home again. The ghosts faded. The silence softened.

Elena stayed. She became Lily’s guardian alongside me. She took charge of the estate. She ran the businesses with intelligence and grace—qualities she had inherited from neither father nor mother, but earned through her own strength.

Sarah remained our lawyer, our advisor, our dearest friend. She helped me rewrite Grace’s will to reflect the truth—to protect Lily completely, to ensure no one could ever threaten her again.

I visited Evelyn’s grave every Sunday. I brought flowers. I told her about Lily. About Elena. About the life we were building. I forgave her. Not because what she did was right… but because she had paid the ultimate price. Because she had loved me in her own broken, terrible way. And because Grace—Grace of all people—would have wanted me to.

I visited Arthur in prison once. We sat across from each other in silence for a long time.

“I am sorry,” he said finally. “For everything.”

“I know,” I said. “And I forgive you. But I will never forget.”

He nodded. “Tell Lily… tell her I am sorry I never got to know her properly.”

“I will,” I said.

I stood to leave.

“Adrian,” he called out softly. “Thank you. For not letting me destroy everything.”

I did not look back. But I said, “Rest in peace, Arthur.”

Outside, the sun was shining. The air was warm. And I realized—for the first time since Grace died—I was not afraid anymore.
