Chapter 18 - THE TRUTH IS REVEALED

The trial lasted three months. Every secret was laid bare. Every lie exposed. Every truth told.
The world learned that I was not James Holloway’s son. They learned of Evelyn’s affair with Arthur. They learned of the decades-long deception. They learned Evelyn had poisoned Grace. They learned Arthur had covered it up. They learned Grace had known everything… and had chosen to protect me anyway.
Evelyn was posthumously charged with manslaughter. Arthur was charged with obstruction of justice, conspiracy, fraud, and multiple counts of perjury. He received fifteen years. He did not appeal. He accepted his punishment as penance for the life he had destroyed.
The truth about my birth was printed in every newspaper. Spoken on every news channel. I was no longer Adrian Holloway… or at least, not by blood.
But James Holloway’s will had already anticipated this. In a clause no one had noticed until Sarah found it—written years before I was born—James had stated clearly: “Regardless of blood or lineage, Adrian is my son in every way that matters. He shall bear my name. He shall inherit my estate. And he shall be my heir.”
James had known. Or at least… he had suspected. And he had chosen me anyway. Just as Grace had chosen me. Just as James had.

I stood in the library one evening, watching the sun set over the estate, holding James’s letter in one hand and Grace’s in the other.
I was not Arthur’s son. I was James’s. By choice. By love. By every measure that truly mattered.
