Chapter 19 - HEALING AND TRUTH

Months passed. The seasons changed. The weather grew warm. The grass turned green. Slowly, the shadows began to lift.

I visited Julian once more. He sat in his cell, looking peaceful. He knew he would spend the rest of his life behind bars. He also knew Lily was safe. And that was enough for him.

“How is she?” he asked quietly.

“She is happy,” I said. “She is healthy. She is loved.”

Julian nodded. A small, sad smile touched his lips.

“Thank you. For everything.”

“I brought you something,” I said. I pulled a photograph from my pocket—Lily, standing in the garden, holding a sunflower, grinning. “She looks like you. A little. Around the eyes.”

Julian took the photo. He studied it for a long time.

“She looks like Elena,” he whispered. “Thank you, Adrian. For letting me see her.”

“Elena left you a letter,” I said. I handed it to him. “She wrote it before she died. She said to give it to you only when it was over.”

Julian opened it. He read it slowly. Tears rolled down his face. When he finished, he folded it carefully and held it against his chest.

“She forgave me,” he said, disbelieving. “After everything… she forgave me.”

“Elena was always kinder than any of us,” I said.

Julian looked at me.

“Tell Lily… tell her I loved her. In my own broken way. And tell her… I am sorry. For everything.”

“I will,” I said.

I stood up to leave. Julian called out to me.

“Adrian?”

I turned.

“Love her enough for all of us,” he said.

“I will,” I promised.

I walked out of the prison and into the bright sunlight. I took a deep breath. For the first time since Elena died… I felt light. Free. The past was still there. But it no longer weighed on me.

I went to the cemetery that afternoon. I knelt before Elena’s grave. I laid sunflowers—her favorite—across the stone.

“We are safe,” I told her. “Lily is happy. Julian is at peace. And Vanessa is where she belongs. You won, Elena. You protected us. Just like you
