Chapter 14 - THE BETRAYAL

At that moment, the study door swung open.
Ethan walked in. Bandaged. Pale. But standing tall. Behind him—two uniformed officers. And beside him—Lila. Holding Caleb’s hand.
Vanessa looked up. Her face crumpled.
“You,” she whispered. “How?”
“Your own words,” Ethan said quietly. “You confessed everything. Adrian recorded it.”
I tapped the phone resting on the desk—still recording. Still broadcasting live to every news outlet in the city.
Vanessa stared at it. Realization slowly turning to horror.
“You…” she breathed. “You set me up.”
“We gave you a chance to tell the truth,” I said. “You chose to confess to every crime. Every lie. Every murder. On your own.”
Sirens wailed outside. Not coming—already here.
Vanessa looked at Caleb. He stood in the doorway, watching her, his face pale but dry-eyed. He didn’t run to her. He didn’t call out. He just stood there, holding Lila’s hand, watching the woman who had given birth to him with something like pity.
“Caleb,” Vanessa whispered, reaching out. “Please. Look at me.”
Caleb took one small step forward. “You hurt my daddy,” he said clearly. “And you hurt me. And you lied. And I don’t want to be with you anymore.”
Vanessa’s hand fell back to her lap. She looked at me—desperate, broken.
“Adrian… please. Tell him. Tell him I did it for us.”
“You did it for yourself,” I said. “And you destroyed everything you claimed to love.”
The officers stepped forward. Cuffed her. She didn’t fight. She stood slowly, looked at Caleb one last time, and whispered so quietly only I could hear:
May you like
“I really did love you.”
Then they led her away.
