Chapter 7: The Woman Who Was Never Gone

Leo stared at his father.

“Someone disappeared pretending to be her?””

Adrian did not answer immediately.

The silence was worse than any explanation.

Because Leo knew his father.

When Adrian Castillo hesitated, it meant the truth was heavier than the words.

“Dad.””

Adrian closed his eyes briefly.

Then he sat down.

“Five years ago, I found evidence that Isabella had been investigating something.””

“Investigating what?””

“Our company.””

Leo frowned.

“But she was part of the family.””

“Exactly.””

Adrian looked at the old photograph on the table.

“That was why she could see things other people couldn’t.””

Vincent placed another file beside the photograph.

“Your aunt discovered financial transfers hidden inside several Castillo Holdings subsidiaries.””

Leo looked at him.

“Someone was stealing?””

“Yes.””

“Who?””

Vincent glanced at Adrian.

“We don’t know.””

Leo looked between them.

“But you thought it was Isabella?””

“No.””

Adrian’s answer was immediate.

“I trusted her.””

“Then why hide her from me?””

Adrian’s face softened.

“Because the person who betrayed us was someone close.””

Leo understood.

“Someone who could hurt me.””

“Yes.””

“And you thought if people knew Isabella was alive…”

“They would know she had information.””

The room became quiet.

Leo looked at the photograph again.

His aunt.

A woman he had never met.

A person whose existence had been hidden because someone wanted her silent.

“Where is she now?””

Adrian looked at the message.

“She wants you to meet her.””

Leo nodded.

“Then I will.””

“No.””

The answer came instantly.

Leo looked at him.

“You just said you would tell me the truth.””

“I will.””

“Then trust me enough to let me hear it from her.””

Adrian stared at him.

The argument was not between a father and son anymore.

It was between two people who both believed they were protecting something.

Finally, Vincent spoke.

“Mr. Castillo.””

Adrian looked at him.

“The longer we wait, the more dangerous this becomes.””

Leo looked surprised.

Vincent continued.

“Whoever placed the tracker already knew Leo’s movements. Whoever contacted him knows we are investigating.””

Adrian remained silent.

Then he looked at his son.

“One condition.””

Leo waited.

“You do not go alone.””

Leo immediately shook his head.

“She asked me to.””

“She may have.””

Adrian’s voice softened.

“But she is still a stranger to you.””

“She’s family.””

Adrian paused.

“That does not always mean safety.””

The words surprised Leo.

Because Adrian had never spoken about family that way before.

That evening, the meeting location was an abandoned waterfront building outside the city.

It was the kind of place nobody visited anymore.

Old warehouses.

Broken windows.

Rusting metal doors.

The opposite of everything Leo knew about the Castillo world.

No luxury.

No security.

No people pretending.

Just silence.

The plan was simple.

Leo would enter first.

Vincent and security would remain nearby.

Adrian would watch from a distance.

Leo hated the idea.

But he understood why.

The moment he stepped inside, he felt nervous.

Not because he was afraid.

Because he was finally meeting someone who was supposed to be part of his life.

Someone who knew secrets about his family.

A voice came from the darkness.

“You look exactly like him.””

Leo stopped.

A woman stepped forward.

She looked older than the photograph.

But her eyes were the same.

Calm.

Sharp.

Observant.

“Isabella?””

The woman smiled slightly.

“You know my name.””

“My father told me.””

Her smile disappeared.

“Your father.””

The way she said it bothered Leo.

“You don’t trust him.””

Isabella looked at him.

“I used to.””

Leo studied her.

“Then what happened?””

She walked closer.

“Your father was never the person I feared.””

“Then who?””

Isabella looked past him.

Toward the entrance.

“Everyone thinks the Castillo family’s greatest enemy is outside.””

A pause.

“But they are wrong.””

Leo felt a chill.

“It’s someone inside?””

“Yes.””

“Who?””

Isabella looked at him.

“That is what I spent years trying to prove.””

Leo took a step closer.

“Why did you contact me?””

“Because you are the only person your father cannot control.””

The words bothered him.

“My father doesn’t control me.””

Isabella smiled sadly.

“That is what makes you useful.””

Leo frowned.

“Useful?””

“Yes.””

She reached into her coat and pulled out a small envelope.

“I need you to see something.””

Leo did not take it immediately.

“What is it?””

“Proof.””

“Of what?””

“That Adrian Castillo has been lying to you.””

The words felt like a punch.

Leo stared at the envelope.

He wanted to reject it.

He wanted to believe his father.

But curiosity won.

Slowly, he opened it.

Inside was a document.

A legal agreement.

His eyes moved across the page.

Then stopped.

The name.

*Isabella Castillo.*

The date.

Twenty years ago.

Leo looked confused.

“This is a transfer agreement.””

“Yes.””

“You gave up your ownership?””

Isabella nodded.

“Everything.””

“Why?””

“Because I found out what your grandfather had done.””

Leo looked up.

“What did he do?””

Isabella’s expression changed.

“Your family built Castillo Holdings on a secret.””

Before Leo could respond, a sound echoed outside.

Footsteps.

Isabella immediately turned.

“You brought someone.””

Leo shook his head.

“No.””

The doors at the far end of the warehouse opened.

A man walked inside.

Slowly.

Confidently.

Leo recognized him from the photograph.

Marcus Vale.

Older.

But unmistakable.

Isabella’s expression became cold.

“You shouldn’t be here.””

Marcus smiled.

“And you should have known better than to contact him.””

Leo stepped back.

“You’re Marcus.””

Marcus looked at him.

“So Adrian finally told you I exist.””

Leo said nothing.

Marcus studied him.

“Interesting.””

“What?””

“You look just like your father.””

Leo felt uncomfortable.

“Why are you here?””

Marcus ignored the question.

He looked at Isabella.

“You promised you wouldn’t involve him.””

“I promised I wouldn’t involve a child in your lies.””

Marcus’s smile disappeared.

“Careful.””

The tension between them was immediate.

Leo realized something.

They were not working together.

They were enemies too.

“Wait.””

Both adults looked at him.

“You know each other.””

Isabella nodded.

“Yes.””

“Then why are you both connected to my family?””

Marcus answered.

“Because your family destroyed mine.””

Isabella immediately said:

“Because your family tried to destroy ours.””

Leo looked between them.

Two different stories.

Two people claiming they were victims.

Then Marcus stepped forward.

“Leo, your father has spent years telling everyone he saved Castillo Holdings.””

A pause.

“But he never told you what happened the night your aunt disappeared.””

Leo’s heart began beating faster.

“What happened?””

Marcus looked at Isabella.

Then back at Leo.

“Your aunt did not leave.””

The warehouse became silent.

“She was forced out.””

Leo looked at Isabella.

Her face had changed.

Not anger.

Pain.

“By who?””

Marcus answered.

“By your father.””

Leo froze.

The words felt impossible.

“No.””

Marcus continued.

“You think Adrian Castillo is protecting you.””

He stepped closer.

“But the truth is…”

A loud sound interrupted him.

A gunshot.

Not close.

But enough.

Everyone froze.

Vincent’s voice came through Leo’s hidden earpiece.

“Leo, get down!””

The lights in the warehouse went out.

Darkness swallowed everything.

People shouted.

Footsteps moved.

Someone grabbed Leo’s arm.

He couldn’t see who.

Then a voice whispered near him.

“Trust me.””

Leo froze.

Because he recognized the voice.

It wasn’t Isabella.

It wasn’t Marcus.

It was someone else.

Someone who should not have been there.

Someone from his father’s world.

May you like

And before Leo could turn around, the person whispered:

“Your father never told you why your mother disappeared.””
