Chapter 6: The Secret Hidden in the Castillo Name
Leo did not sleep that night.
The message remained on his phone.
*Your father is not the only Castillo who has secrets.*
He had read it so many times that the words almost stopped looking real.
Almost.
But every time he closed his eyes, he remembered Adrian’s face.
Not the face of a powerful businessman.
Not the face that appeared on magazine covers.
His father’s face.
The face of someone who knew exactly what the message meant.
And that scared Leo more than the message itself.
Because Adrian Castillo was never afraid.
At least, not where Leo could see.
The next morning, Leo sat at the breakfast table inside the Castillo estate, barely touching his food.
The room was enormous.
A long wooden table.
Tall windows.
A view of the gardens.
Usually, Leo complained that breakfast felt too formal.
Today, he barely noticed.
Adrian walked in carrying a cup of coffee and stopped when he saw his son.
“You didn’t sleep.””
Leo looked up.
“I did.””
Adrian raised an eyebrow.
Leo sighed.
“Not much.””
His father sat across from him.
“About the message?””
Leo nodded.
A long silence passed.
Finally, Leo pushed his phone across the table.
“Who is the other Castillo?””
Adrian looked at the screen.
The question was simple.
But the reaction was not.
His hand stopped.
Only for a moment.
But Leo noticed.
“Dad.””
Adrian placed the phone down.
“There are things I should have told you earlier.””
Leo looked at him.
“Why didn’t you?””
Adrian looked toward the window.
“Because I wanted you to grow up without carrying the weight of our family history.””
Leo frowned.
“But it already affects me.””
The words were quiet.
But they hit hard.
Adrian looked back.
Leo continued.
“I went to school yesterday thinking I was just a normal kid.””
A pause.
“Then someone insulted me because of my backpack.””
Another pause.
“Then I found out someone put a tracker on me.””
His voice lowered.
“And now there’s another secret?””
Adrian listened.
He did not interrupt.
That was one of the things Leo appreciated most about him.
When Adrian listened, he truly listened.
“You’re right,” Adrian finally said.
Leo looked surprised.
“You are?””
“Yes.””
Adrian leaned back.
“I made the mistake of thinking protecting you meant keeping things away from you.””
“So what is the truth?””
Adrian looked at him.
“The Castillo family is bigger than you know.””
“How?””
“Your grandfather had two children.””
Leo froze.
“Two?””
“Yes.””
“Who is the other one?””
Adrian was silent.
Then he answered.
“Isabella Castillo.””
The name meant nothing to Leo.
“Who is she?””
Adrian looked down.
“My older sister.””
Leo stared.
“Your sister?””
“Yes.””
“Where is she?””
Adrian’s expression changed.
“She disappeared twenty years ago.””
Leo sat back.
“That sounds impossible.””
“It does.””
“What happened?””
Adrian looked at the table.
“She left after a disagreement with my father.””
“Your grandfather?””
“Yes.””
“What kind of disagreement?””
Adrian hesitated.
“One that involved the future of Castillo Holdings.””
Leo waited.
But his father did not continue.
“Dad.””
Adrian sighed.
“Isabella believed the company was becoming something it should not be.””
“What does that mean?””
“She thought power was changing our family.””
Leo looked around the mansion.
The security.
The staff.
The luxury.
He understood why someone might think that.
“What happened after she left?””
“Nobody heard from her again.””
Leo frowned.
“But she’s alive?””
Adrian looked at him.
“Yes.””
“How do you know?””
“Because I found her.””
Leo’s eyes widened.
“When?””
“Five years ago.””
“Then why didn’t I know?””
Adrian looked away.
“Because she asked me not to tell anyone.””
“Why?””
A heavy silence filled the room.
Then Adrian answered.
“Because she believed someone in our family wanted her gone.””
Leo felt a chill.
“Someone?””
“Yes.””
“Who?””
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“That is the question I have spent five years trying to answer.””
Before Leo could ask more, the door opened.
Vincent entered.
“Mr. Castillo.””
Adrian looked up.
“Yes?””
“We found something.””
Vincent placed a folder on the table.
Leo immediately noticed.
Another folder.
Another secret.
Adrian opened it.
Inside were photographs.
The first one showed Marcus Vale.
The second showed Victoria Hale.
The third made Adrian stop.
Leo leaned forward.
“What is it?””
Adrian turned the photograph around.
It showed a woman.
Older.
Elegant.
Dark hair.
A familiar expression.
Leo looked confused.
“Who is she?””
Adrian stared at the photograph.
“Isabella.””
Leo looked closer.
His aunt.
The missing Castillo.
But something was wrong.
“She’s with Marcus.””
Vincent nodded.
“Yes.””
Adrian’s expression changed.
“When was this taken?””
“Three months ago.””
Leo looked between them.
“But you said you didn’t know where she was.””
“I didn’t.””
“Then how?””
Nobody answered.
Leo stood.
“So she’s alive.””
“Yes.””
“And she’s working with Marcus?””
Adrian did not answer.
Because he did not want to say it.
But Leo understood.
The possibility was there.
His own family member.
The person whose name was hidden from him.
Might be connected to everything happening.
Later that afternoon, Adrian made a decision.
“We are going to see her.””
Leo looked up.
“Me too?””
Adrian shook his head.
“No.””
Leo immediately frowned.
“Why?””
“Because I don’t know what we’re walking into.””
“I’m involved.””
“I know.””
“Then I should know the truth.””
Adrian looked at him.
For several seconds, father and son stared at each other.
Finally, Adrian sighed.
“You are stubborn.””
Leo crossed his arms.
“I get that from you.””
A small smile appeared on Adrian’s face.
“That is unfortunately true.””
Vincent stood nearby.
“Mr. Castillo, there is another issue.””
Adrian looked at him.
“What?””
“The message sent to Leo.””
“Yes?””
“We traced the number.””
Leo looked up.
“And?””
Vincent’s expression became serious.
“It came from a phone registered under Isabella Castillo’s name.””
The room went silent.
Leo felt his chest tighten.
His aunt.
The missing member of the Castillo family.
The person everyone thought was only a memory.
Had contacted him.
Not his father.
Not Vincent.
Him.
“Why would she message me?””
Nobody knew.
But then Leo’s phone buzzed again.
Everyone looked at it.
Another message.
Same unknown number.
Leo picked it up slowly.
This time, there was no threat.
Only one sentence.
*Leo, if you are reading this, your father has already told you I exist.*
Leo’s eyes moved across the screen.
Then another message appeared.
*Do not trust everything Adrian Castillo tells you.*
His fingers went cold.
A third message arrived.
*Meet me alone tonight. I will show you what your family has been hiding.*
Leo looked up.
Adrian immediately saw his face.
“What did she say?””
Leo didn’t answer.
He couldn’t.
Because for the first time in his life, he was caught between two people.
His father.
The man he trusted more than anyone.
And a woman whose existence had been hidden from him.
A woman who claimed she knew the truth.
Vincent stepped forward.
“Leo, give me the phone.””
But Leo held it tighter.
“Why?””
Everyone stopped.
Leo looked at his father.
“Why does everyone keep deciding what I’m allowed to know?””
Adrian’s expression softened.
“Leo.””
“No.””
The boy’s voice shook.
“I’m tired of being protected from the truth.””
The words hurt.
Leo could see that they hurt his father.
But they were true.
Adrian approached slowly.
“Then let me tell you everything.””
Leo looked at him.
“Everything?””
“Yes.””
A pause.
“But before I do…”
Adrian looked at the message.
His face became serious.
“You need to know one thing.””
“What?””
Adrian lowered his voice.
“Your aunt Isabella was not the person who disappeared.””
Leo frowned.
“What does that mean?””
Adrian looked toward the photograph on the table.
The photograph of Isabella standing beside Marcus Vale.
“It means someone disappeared pretending to be her.””
The room went completely silent.
And Leo realized something terrifying.
May you like
The secret inside the Castillo family was not that someone had vanished.
The secret was that someone had been hiding in plain sight for years.
