Chapter 12 - THE SHOCKING REVELATION

I stared at my father. The words hung in the air like smoke. Not Elena’s daughter?

“That’s impossible,” my father whispered, his hands trembling. “Elena gave birth to her. I was there. I held her minutes after she was born.”

He kept reading.

“Elena could not have children. She was told she would never conceive. She was desperate. Humiliated. So when she found out I was pregnant… she made me an offer. She would raise the child as her own. I would be handsomely compensated. I would disappear from their lives forever. Adrian would never know. The baby would have everything.

I agreed. But then… I realized I could not give her up. I wanted to be part of her life. I wanted to watch her grow. And so I married Adrian. I stepped into the house as her stepmother. And I watched my own daughter be raised as another woman’s child.”

My father dropped the letter. It fluttered onto the desk. He stared at me with eyes wide with horror.

“Vanessa… is your mother?”
