Chapter 11 - THE RACE TO MIDNIGHT

I rushed the formula to Dr. Hayes. He worked in the hospital pharmacy while Sarah sat beside Lily in intensive care, monitoring every breath, holding her hand, whispering words of love and encouragement.

Time became a blur.

10:00 PM. Dr. Hayes located the last rare ingredient in the city.

10:45 PM. He began compounding.

11:30 PM. The antidote was ready. Clear, shimmering liquid. Administered intravenously.

11:48 PM. Lily’s heart rate began to slow dangerously. Alarms sounded.

Sarah gripped Lily’s hand. “Come back, baby. Fight. Mommy is here. Daddy is here. Fight for us.”

Dr. Hayes administered the final drop.

We waited. Every second stretched into an hour.

Then… Lily’s chest rose. Deep. Strong. Her heart rate steadied. Color returned to her cheeks.

She opened her eyes. Confused. Tired. But alive.

“Mommy?” she whispered.

Sarah collapsed over her, weeping, laughing, holding her as tight as she dared. I stood beside them, pressing my hand to Lily’s forehead, my eyes closed, thanking whatever force watched over us.

She was safe.

Julian had failed.
