Chapter 6: The Family That Was Still Running

The footage was only twelve seconds long.

But those twelve seconds changed everything.

Noah watched the video three times.

Then five.

Then ten.

He couldn’t stop.

Because every time he watched it, the impossible became real.

His mother was alive.

His father was alive.

Eight years after their disappearance, they had walked through a private airport security gate.

Together.

The footage showed Daniel first.

Older.

Thinner.

But unmistakably his father.

Laura followed beside him.

Her hair was shorter.

Her face looked tired.

But Noah knew her.

He knew her before he ever truly knew her.

Then came the third person.

Evelyn Whitmore.

His grandmother.

Noah covered his mouth.

“She was with them.””

Sarah nodded.

“Yes.””

“But she told me they were gone.””

“She told you they were gone because she was protecting the secret.””

Noah looked away.

It hurt.

Even if there was a reason.

Even if his grandmother had done it to keep him safe.

Eight years of wondering.

Eight years of feeling abandoned.

And now he learned she had known.

A part of him wanted to understand.

Another part wanted to scream.

The team analyzed the footage frame by frame.

The airport cameras showed the family entering a small private terminal.

Then something strange happened.

They never boarded a plane.

They disappeared from the building.

No exit.

No vehicle.

No flight record.

Nothing.

Reyes looked frustrated.

“They knew where the cameras were.””

Sarah nodded.

“They planned this.””

Noah watched the footage again.

Then paused.

“Wait.””

Everyone looked at him.

He pointed at the screen.

“My mom.””

Sarah moved closer.

“What?””

“She looked at the camera.””

The image was blurry.

But Laura’s eyes were turned directly toward the security camera.

Almost like she knew someone would find this footage one day.

The team enhanced the image.

And then they saw it.

Laura was holding something.

A small piece of paper.

Sarah leaned closer.

“What does it say?””

The image was too unclear.

But Noah noticed something.

A symbol.

The same symbol from his pendant.

His grandmother.

His parents.

The hidden jet.

Everything connected to the same mark.

That evening, Noah received a package.

No sender.

No address.

Just his name.

The entire team became alert.

Sarah immediately called security.

“Don’t open it.””

But Noah stared at the package.

Something about it felt familiar.

Not dangerous.

Personal.

“It’s from them.””

Sarah looked at him.

“How do you know?””

“Because they knew I would find this place.””

After several checks, investigators opened the package.

Inside was a small notebook.

Old.

Worn.

The first page contained a message.

Noah recognized the handwriting instantly.

His mother’s.

*Noah,*

His hands trembled.

He turned the page.

*If you are reading this, then we ran out of time.*

His eyes filled with tears.

Sarah stood silently beside him.

The message continued.

*I need you to know something. We never stopped loving you. Not for one second.*

Noah closed his eyes.

A lifetime of questions.

One sentence of truth.

Then he continued.

*Your father discovered that Michael Grant was not working alone.*

Noah’s expression changed.

Not alone.

The words repeated in his mind.

*The person controlling everything was someone we trusted even more.*

A cold silence filled the room.

Sarah leaned closer.

“Who?””

Noah turned the page.

But the next section had been torn out.

Only one sentence remained.

*Trust the person who brings you this notebook.*

Noah looked up.

Everyone looked at everyone else.

Because nobody had brought the notebook.

It had simply appeared.

Then Noah noticed something else.

A small mark burned into the back cover.

A location.

Not an airport.

Not a city.

A house.

Sarah recognized it immediately.

Her face lost color.

“No.””

Noah looked at her.

“What?””

She stepped backward.

“That location…”

“What about it?””

Sarah stared at the symbol.

“That was my childhood home.””

The room went silent.

Noah felt his heartbeat slow.

Because suddenly the mystery became much bigger.

The person who helped his parents escape.

The person his grandmother trusted.

The person who erased Clara Voss.

They weren’t hiding somewhere far away.

They were connected to the people searching for them.

And then Sarah’s phone rang again.

She answered.

A few seconds later, she dropped it.

“What happened?”” Noah asked.

Sarah looked at him.

Her face was filled with fear.

“The house is empty.””

Noah waited.

“Then why are you scared?””

Sarah whispered:

“Because someone was there five minutes ago.””

A pause.

“And they left something behind.””

“What?””

Sarah looked at the screen of her phone.

A photograph.

A new photograph.

Taken moments earlier.

It showed Noah.

Standing inside the hotel room.

May you like

Sleeping.

Someone had been watching him.
