Chapter 10 - THE TRUTH COMES TO LIGHT

Gareth stared at his brother, disbelief warring with rage. “You dare?”

“I dare,” Julian said, stepping forward until he stood beside me. “You held my mistakes over my head for twenty years. You told me whom to marry. What to say. When to strike. You made me betray the only woman I ever truly loved. And when she became vulnerable… you ordered me to destroy her completely. Well, hear this—I am finished being your puppet.”

Gareth’s face darkened to fury. “You will regret this for the rest of your short life.”

“Let him speak,” I said, my voice cutting through the tension. “Because Julian is not the only one who knows your secrets now. We know about the forged documents. The bribed medical records. The threats against my life. And if anything happens to us… every single thing goes public. Your real name. The crimes in the country you fled from. The murders you were an accomplice to years ago.”

I saw fear flash in Gareth’s eyes. For the first time, truly.

“You speak of things you do not understand,” he said, but his voice lacked its earlier confidence.

“I understand more than you think,” I said. “My father left records too. Bank transfers. Names. Witnesses. He paid you to leave, yes—but he also kept evidence of everything you had done. Evidence I gave to the district attorney yesterday. They are waiting for your confession, Gareth. Not my words. Yours.”

Gareth looked at Julian. At the security guard. At Sarah, who had recovered her footing and stood ready beside me. He realized instantly—he was cornered. His trap had snapped shut on his own feet.

Slowly, his shoulders sagged. The mask of control fell away, revealing the bitter, empty man beneath.

“He should have left me my share,” Gareth said, his voice flat, defeated. “Your father. He built everything… and gave me nothing. Sent me away like trash. I deserved equality. I deserved respect.”

“And you deserved prison for the ways you tried to take it,” I said. “Julian, tell the guard to call the authorities. Every detail. Every charge. Everything Eleanor and I documented.”

Julian nodded. As he stepped away to speak quietly with the guard, Gareth turned back to me, his eyes burning with hate.

“You may win today,” he said quietly. “But look at the husband you defended. Look at the man who obeyed every order I gave. Who helped me steal from you. Who brought another woman to your bedside. He is weak, Genevieve. And weakness always invites ruin. You have won the war against me… but you have not yet won the war within your own home.”

He stepped forward as officers arrived, clicking handcuffs into place. He did not resist. But as they led him away, he looked back one last time, and his final words sent a chill through me.

“Watch your back, little sister-in-law. There are others. Always others.”

Silence returned to the corridor. Julian stood with head bowed, refusing to meet my eyes. Sarah looked at me, concerned.

“Gen… are you alright?”

“I am standing,” I said. Pain still flared in every leg muscle, exhaustion weighed heavy on my bones, but I stood tall. “And Gareth is in custody. The threat is ended.”

“Perhaps,” Sarah said quietly. “But his final words… ‘others’… Gen, we must be certain.”

“We will be,” I said. I turned to Julian. “Tell me everything. Every secret. Every name. Every person Gareth ever worked with. Do not hold one single thing back.”

Julian lifted his face. Tears streaked down his cheeks.

“I will tell you everything,” he whispered brokenly. “And then… I will understand if you never forgive me.”
