Chapter 7: The Person Who Stole My Life

The room became so quiet that I could hear the rain hitting the windows.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Everyone was waiting for Elena to say the name.

The name that would change everything.

I looked at Richard.

Then Margaret.

Then Ethan.

Someone in this house knew.

Someone had taken me from my mother.

Someone had rewritten my entire life.

My fingers tightened around the folder Elena had given me.

“Who?””

My voice barely sounded like mine.

Elena looked at me.

Pain filled her eyes.

“I need you to understand something first.””

I shook my head.

“No.””

My voice cracked.

“I don’t want another explanation.””

I looked around the room.

“I’ve spent my whole life hearing explanations.””

I pointed toward the people behind me.

“Everyone had a reason.””

Richard looked down.

Margaret wiped her eyes.

Ethan stayed silent.

“But nobody asked what it was like for me.””

The words came out faster.

“I grew up thinking I wasn’t wanted.””

Elena’s expression broke.

“I know.””

“No, you don’t.””

I immediately regretted saying it.

But I couldn’t stop.

“You lost me.””

My voice softened.

“But I lost everyone before I even knew I had them.””

The room was silent.

Elena nodded slowly.

“You’re right.””

That surprised me.

She didn’t defend herself.

She didn’t explain.

She just accepted it.

“I can’t give you back the years we lost.””

She took a shaky breath.

“But I can give you the truth.””

I looked at her.

“Then tell me.””

She glanced at Richard.

And this time, Richard didn’t stop her.

He just looked defeated.

“Elena wasn’t supposed to be able to have a child,” she said.

I frowned.

“What?””

She looked at me.

“When I discovered the company records, I also discovered something else.””

She opened the folder.

Inside was a medical report.

My name was on it.

My birth date.

My information.

I felt sick.

“What is this?””

Elena’s fingers trembled.

“This is the report from the day you were born.””

I looked at the page.

Then back at her.

“What does it mean?””

She swallowed.

“It means someone tried to make sure you would never exist.””

The words felt impossible.

“What?””

Richard stepped forward.

“Elena.””

She looked at him.

“No more secrets.””

Richard stopped.

She turned back to me.

“Your birth was connected to the Vale family trust.””

I stared at the paper.

“My inheritance?””

“Yes.””

“And someone wanted it?””

She nodded.

“Not just the inheritance.””

She pointed to the documents.

“The control rights.””

I didn’t understand.

Ethan stepped closer.

“The Vale family owned the original controlling shares of Whitmore Corporation.””

I looked at him.

“And?””

“When your grandfather died, those shares were placed into a trust.””

Ethan looked at Elena.

“Waiting for the next Vale heir.””

My stomach tightened.

“That’s me.””

Elena nodded.

“Yes.””

I looked at Richard.

“So they adopted me because of money.””

The sentence was quiet.

But everyone heard it.

Richard immediately shook his head.

“Noah, it wasn’t like that.””

“Wasn’t it?””

His face changed.

Because he couldn’t answer.

Elena spoke softly.

“At first, Richard wanted to protect you.””

I looked at her.

“At first?””

She looked away.

“That changed.””

The room grew colder.

“What happened?””

Elena took a breath.

“When I disappeared, Richard found you.””

I looked at him.

He nodded.

“I found you after someone left you at a hospital.””

My heart stopped.

“A hospital?””

“Yes.””

“Alone?””

Richard looked away.

“Yes.””

I felt dizzy.

“So you knew.””

He nodded.

“I knew someone had taken you.””

“Then why did you tell me I was abandoned?””

Richard’s eyes filled with regret.

“I didn’t.””

Margaret looked at him.

“You let him believe it.””

Richard closed his eyes.

“Yes.””

The honesty hurt more than another lie.

I stepped back.

“You all knew.””

Margaret whispered:

“I’m sorry.””

I looked at her.

The woman who had raised me.

The woman who had called me an outsider.

“Were you?””

She froze.

That question hurt her.

Good.

Maybe she needed to feel something.

“I loved you,” she whispered.

I almost believed her.

Almost.

But love without truth had still damaged me.

“You loved me,” I said quietly.

“Then why did you always make me feel like I didn’t belong?””

Margaret had no answer.

For the first time in years, she had nothing to say.

A loud crash suddenly came from upstairs.

Everyone turned.

The security team immediately moved.

“Stay here,” Richard ordered.

But nobody listened.

The guards rushed toward the second floor.

Ethan grabbed my arm.

“Behind me.””

I looked at him.

“You’re protecting me now?””

His expression tightened.

“I should have done it years ago.””

The sound of footsteps echoed above us.

Then a guard shouted.

“Someone was here!””

Richard ran upstairs.

We followed.

The hallway was dark.

A window at the end of the corridor was open.

Rain blew inside.

On the floor was a small black device.

The security manager picked it up carefully.

“What is that?””

The guard examined it.

“A signal transmitter.””

Elena’s face changed.

“They found us.””

Richard looked at her.

“Who?””

She didn’t answer.

Because suddenly, the device began making a sound.

A message.

Everyone froze.

A voice came through the speaker.

Distorted.

Cold.

“You should have taken the boy and disappeared, Elena.””

My blood ran cold.

The voice continued.

“You had one job.””

Elena stepped backward.

“No…”

The voice laughed.

“You were supposed to give him to the Whitmores.””

Richard’s face changed.

“What?””

I looked at him.

Give him?

The voice continued.

“But you made the mistake of loving him.””

Elena covered her mouth.

Tears filled her eyes.

The message continued.

“Now he knows.””

A pause.

Then:

“And now he will learn what his father did.””

The device went silent.

Nobody moved.

I looked at Richard.

“My father?””

The word felt strange.

The voice said his father.

Not Richard.

Someone else.

Someone connected to my birth.

Richard looked terrified.

Elena whispered:

“Noah…”

“What?””

She looked at me.

“I need to tell you the final part.””

My heart pounded.

“What final part?””

She looked at Richard.

Then at me.

“The person who ordered me to give you up…”

She paused.

“And the person who caused your adoption…”

The hallway lights flickered.

Everyone turned.

The main security screen at the end of the hall suddenly turned on.

A file appeared.

No sender.

No explanation.

Just a name.

A name that made Richard collapse against the wall.

I stared at the screen.

Because I knew that name.

Not from my past.

Not from my family.

But from the one thing I had carried since childhood.

My adoption papers.

The name listed under *biological father*.

A man I had never met.

A man everyone told me was gone.

The screen displayed:

*ALEXANDER VALE*

And beneath it:

*STATUS: ALIVE*

Elena whispered:

“He’s coming for you.””

Then the screen changed.

May you like

A final message appeared.

*MY SON IS COMING HOME.*
