Chapter 5 - The Second KeyThe second key opened a safety deposit box at a bank downtown.

Richard went with Caleb, Daniel, and an attorney.
Inside was a sealed envelope, a flash drive, and Elena’s final letter.
Richard read it aloud.
Margaret did not cause the crash. But she knew someone planned it. The person who wanted me silent was not your mother. It was someone closer.
Daniel stopped breathing.
Richard looked at him.
“No,” Daniel whispered. “It wasn’t me.”
The flash drive contained security footage from the night Elena died.
A man had tampered with her car outside the family garage.
The image was grainy.
But the man wore Daniel’s jacket.
Caleb gripped Richard’s hand.
“Uncle Daniel?”
Daniel began to cry.
“It wasn’t me,” he said again. “I gave my jacket to someone.”
“Who?” Richard asked.
Daniel looked at the final page of Elena’s letter.
His face lost all color.
“Your business partner,” he said.
Richard took the paper.
At the bottom, Elena had written one final sentence:
If anything happens to me, do not trust Victor Hale. He knows Caleb’s real inheritance is more than money.
Richard looked at his son.
Caleb was only eight years old.
He had no idea why adults were lying, hiding keys, or fighting over his name.
Richard knelt in front of him.
“You belong with me,” he said. “Always.”
Then Richard’s phone rang.
It was the police officer at the mansion.
“Mr. Calloway,” she said urgently. “Your mother is gone.”
Richard looked through the bank window.
Across the street, a black SUV was pulling away.

Margaret was inside.
And sitting beside her was Victor Hale.
