Chapter 19 - THE GRAVE AND THE TRUTH

We went to the cemetery that afternoon. Julian’s grave bore the wrong name for thirty years. But today, workers were replacing it—carving JULIAN HOLLOWAY · BELOVED SON AND BROTHER into stone, where it should have been all along.

Daniel knelt before the fresh marker. He set the silver brush atop the earth. Sunlight glinted off the engraved J.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I should have known you sooner. I should have remembered. But I remember now. And I will never forget.”

I stood beside him. “He knows. He always knew.”

Daniel stood and brushed the dirt from his hands. “My name is Daniel. I am Julian’s brother. I am Noah’s father. That is who I am. Not what she made me. Not what she called me.”

He took my hand as we walked away.

“Arthur Sterling wasn’t a killer,” he said quietly. “But he was afraid. And fear… fear lets evil take root.”

“He redeemed himself,” I said. “With his care. With his warnings. With the trust he built to protect Noah. He tried to fix what he was too afraid to stop.”

“Then we must be braver than he was.” Daniel squeezed my fingers. “No more secrets. No more silence. If we see something wrong… we speak. If someone we love is hurting… we stand. For Noah. For Julian. For every child who cannot speak for themselves.”
