Chapter 6 - THE ALLIANCE NO ONE SAW

I spent the rest of the day in shock. Julian Vance. Kind, charming, generous Julian. He had attended every birthday dinner. He had sent gifts. He had sat in this very house, holding Noah on his lap, telling him stories.
All while planning to destroy him.
Daniel confirmed everything. Julian had been the power behind the empire for decades. Evelyn was the face, Julian was the brain. They had always worked in perfect, terrifying sync—she created the fear, he cleaned the mess. She took the blame, he collected the profit.
“Why?” I asked, pacing the floor. “Why go through all this? Why frame you? Why threaten Elias? Why not just take Noah?”
“Because he cannot,” Daniel said. “My father—your father—made it impossible. The documents are airtight. Noah owns everything. Only Noah can release the funds, dissolve the trusts, or expose the secrets. Julian cannot touch a penny until Noah turns twenty-five. Unless he controls him.”
“He wants to raise Noah as his own,” I realized. “Shape him. Control him. Make sure the secrets stay buried forever.”
“Yes. And if he cannot control him… he will destroy him. And blame it on you or me.”
That evening, we received a visitor.
A car pulled up at the gate just as the sun set. Julian stepped out—tall, silver-haired, impeccably dressed, wearing that warm, familiar smile that had fooled me for years. He walked right past the security guards as if he owned the place, knocked gently, and walked in before anyone could answer.
“Emily,” he said warmly, opening his arms. “I heard what happened. I came as soon as I could.”
I stood perfectly still. Daniel stepped between me and Julian, his face like stone.
“Leave, Julian,” Daniel said.
Julian paused, looking from Daniel to me. His smile faded just slightly.
“Is that any way to greet family? I came to help. Evelyn has gone too far. I will speak to her. I will fix this.”
“Evelyn did not go too far,” I said. My voice was steady, cold. “You did.”
Julian froze. Then he sighed. A long, weary sound. He walked to the fireplace and stood with his back to us, looking at the portrait above the mantel.
“Your father found the truth,” he said quietly, not turning around. “I told him to leave it buried. Some truths are too dangerous to dig up.”
“Dangerous to who?” I asked. “To the people who built their fortune on theft?”
Julian turned. His eyes were no longer warm. They were hard, cold, and completely unmasked.
“To everyone, Emily. If those records are released, thousands of jobs vanish. Fortunes collapse. Families are ruined. Your father knew that. He did not care. He wanted revenge.”
“He wanted justice,” I said.
“He wanted war,” Julian corrected. “And war is exactly what he started. Now you have a choice. Hand over whatever evidence he left behind. Let me take Noah under my protection until this settles. And you all remain safe. Wealthy. Untouched.”
“Or?” Daniel asked.
May you like
Julian looked at him, his expression grave.
“Or Elias dies. And then… things get messy.”
